Music itself stands alone from other forms of expression like art or photography. Music like all forms of expression a certain defining feature that makes it unique and its the sound, artist use this sound to convey there thoughts and feelings or a message across. All forms of expressionism have it art has visual images as does photography, dance has movement and poetry has written meanings but they all link to the artist portraying a message. Music itself has different forms within the bold headline of music, and these genre's allow and encourage expansion and challenging of new boundaries. There are a lot of genre's and sub genre's however the main few are:
Pop music is the basis mixture music, which was adapted and influenced by every genre. It’s defined as music that commercially recorded and nowadays is aimed at the youth audience; they are usually short, snappy and involve the latest of the technological innovations. Some famous pop stars include Michael Jackson, Madonna, and more recently artists like Britney Spears and Justin Beiber. These types of artist are more worshiped by the audience then more classical pop stars.
Rock Music:
Rock music was formulated during and post 1960's, it came strongly from the nations ofUnited Kingdom and USA , it came as a branch of the 1940-50s rock and roll outbreaks. It is mainly influenced by a mixture of Rhythm and Blues and Country music. Rock is a type of genre which is the most expressive as it was born and influenced out of many original genres such as blues, folk, classical and jazz. Some notable rock stars and bands include Mick Jagger, The Who, U2 and Sting.
Jazz Music:
Jazz music is a style that began in many African American communities at the beginning of the 20th century. It was in abundance mainly in the south of theUSA . It was born from a merger of African and European music traditions. From its early development until today, jazz has combined music from 19th-20th century. Some influential jazz players include Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Miles Davies.
Folk Music:
Folk music is a merger of traditional folk and contemporary folk music. These two aspects have to different definitions, traditional folk has been defined in three ways, as music transmitted by mouth, as music for the lower classes and as music with unknown composers. It has been dated to an origin of around the mid 20th century. the other aspect area of folk music known as contemporary folk music is also known as the folk revival music and was later then the original folk type music and it aimed at bringing back the folk music sound. Some famous folk singers include Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell.

Classical music is music roughly from the period 11th century to present times. The main bulk of classical music cam from between 1550 and 1900, which is also known as the common practice period with many artists like Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. These are the most famous classical musicians.
R&B Music:
R&B also known as Rhythm and Blues was a popular style of music among African American communities in the 1940's. The name comes from record labels marketing it to African Americans at a time when jazz based music with heavy instruments with big bass was popular. Since this original type of R&B many other types have branched off from this original they include Hip Hop, Rap, Funk and Soul. Some famous R&B singers include Marvin Gaye, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles and Muddy Waters.
